Calgary Hitmen News Release
Calgary AB - The Calgary Hitmen is proud to announce that the Alberta Animal Rescue Crew (AARCS) is the winning charity for the 2019-20 Hitmen Pledge. Thanks to Katica Spasic, a volunteer who was randomly selected from over 1,300 submissions from the Hitmen Pledge, a cheque for $25,000 was award to AARCS on October 3rd at the Hitmen's home opener. Katica named AARCS as her charity of choice should her name be drawn.
The Pledge, launched at the 2019 Hitmen Home Opener, asked participants to donate 25 volunteer hours back into their community with the overall goal of generating 25,000 total hours for the 25th season of Hitmen Hockey. For every 25 hours donated, volunteers received one entry to win $25,000 from the Calgary Hitmen Foundation to gift to a registered Southern Alberta charity of their choice. The Hitmen Pledge powered by ENMAX' was an enormous success with 34,763 volunteer hours donated to local charities. That translates into over $1.18 million in equivalent labour hours according to Propellus, The Volunteer Centre of Calgary.
AARCS is a grassroots animal welfare organization the goal is to help homeless animals in communities across Alberta and provide community support programs to address the root causes of animal overpopulation and homelessness. A large portion of this donation will go towards much needed, lifesaving surgeries for animals across Alberta.
The Calgary Hitmen would like to thank everyone who helped us celebrate our 25th Anniversary season by taking the Hitmen Pledge. The Hitmen will soon be announcing a similar initiative for the 2021-22 season.
