Calgary, AB - The Calgary Hitmen Hockey Club today announced they have acquired 20-year-old forward Kyle Olson from the Tri-City Americans in exchange for 20-year-old forward James Malm, a second-round pick in the 2020 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft and a conditional fourth-round pick in 2022.

"Kyle has a tireless motor who provides a different dynamic to our forward group," said Hitmen General Manager Jeff Chynoweth. "He was the captain of the Americans, can play both centre and the wing and is a proven scorer in our league. We would also like to thank James for his time in Calgary and wish him all the best with the Americans."

Olson has tallied 169 points (53g, 116a) in 205 career games during five seasons with the Americans while adding 10 points (4g, 6a) in 19 playoff matches. His younger brother Quinn (2001-forward) is on the Hitmen 50-player protected list, playing NCAA Hockey with the University of Minnesota-Duluth after being drafted by the Boston Bruins in 2019.

This trade brings Olson back to his home city of Calgary where he starred in the Blackfoot Minor Hockey Association. During that time he was named co-MVP of the Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League after notching 80 points (39g, 41a) in 33 games as a member of the Calgary Bisons in 2013-14.

Olson has also played for Hockey Canada, suiting up at the 2017 IIHF U18 World Championship alongside current Hitmen defenceman Jett Woo where he finished tied for third in team scoring with three points (2g, 1a) in five games.
