Hillsboro defeats Boise

BOISE, Idaho - Zac Curtis struck out Varonex Cuevas with the bases loaded to pick up his fourth save of the season, helping the Hillsboro Hops defeat the Boise Hawks, 3-1, at Memorial Stadium.
A three-run homer by Grant Heyman in the sixth inning provided all the offense for the Hops, who improved their record to 10-6, tops in the South Division.
Ben Eckels tied a career-high with eight strikeouts in picking up the win for Hillsboro, going six and a third innings.
The Hawks scored first in the third, as Jesse Hodges scored from third on a double play ball. Boise had chances in the latter innings - getting runners to first and third with one out in the seventh and runners at second and third in the eighth, but reliever Dustin Loggins recorded four key strikeouts to elude trouble.
In the ninth, Curtis walked Justin Marra on a two-out, 3-2 pitch and surrendered a single to Hodges. After a walk to Zak Blair, the lefty got Cuevas swinging on a slider in the dirt to end the game.
Hodges was 2-for-4 for the Hawks in the loss, with Bennie Robinson going 2-for-4 for Hillsboro.
Boise hits the road for five games, opening a series at Tri-City tomorrow night. Trevor Graham meets Grahamm Wiest at 8:15 p.m. (MT)
