Lynchburg Hillcats News Release

The Nationals scored four times in the eighth inning and stopped Lynchburg's attempt at a third comeback of the game and a series sweep. The final score was 11-6.

Lynchburg came back from two separate two-run deficits, but never took the lead in the game.

Potomac got on the board again in the first inning in a game that almost mirrored yesterday's effort. The Nats scored twice on a two-out, two-run double by Tyler Moore in the first. The Hillcats went scoreless into the fourth, when Devin Mesoraco hit a two-run homer to tie it up. It was Mesoraco's sixth home run of the season.

The Nats scored one more in the fifth and sixth innings. The Hillcats led off the bottom of the sixth with three straight hits. Cody Puckett led off with a double and scored on Neftali Soto's double. Soto went 3-for-5 with an RBI. He finished the series 8-for-16 with two home runs and six RBI. Mesoraco later drove in Soto on a fielder's choice to tie the game at four.

In the next half-inning, though, the Nationals struck for four runs. Edgardo Baez, Michael Burgess and Tim Pahuta each had extra-base hits. Burgess' double drove in two, and Pahuta's triple added another. An RBI single from Robby Jacobsen capped the scoring.

The Hillcats scored twice in the bottom of the eighth to drop the deficit to three. Miguel Rojas' two-RBI single added those runs. But the Nationals got the two back in the ninth after three straight hits with two outs.

Curtis Partch only gave up two earned runs (three overall) in five innings and struck out four. He also walked four and got the no decision. Lance Janke got the loss in relief. He threw two innings and gave up five earned runs, and is now 0-3 on the season. Robinson Fabian gets the win in relief.

Lynchburg opens up a series with Kinston tomorrow night at 6:05. ABC 13's 50-cent hot dog day debuts for the 2010 season. All hot dogs in the ball park cost only 50 cents. Lynchburg sends Brad Boxberger (2-1, 1.89 ERA) to the mound against the Indians.
