Frederick Keys News Release

A night ago it was outfielder Xavier Avery getting his first hit of the night in the 15th inning to begin a four-run rally that put Frederick atop. On Sunday afternoon in Myrtle Beach, SC the Keys did not have to wait long.

Avery led off the game with a double, as the Keys scored three first inning runs and never looked back in an 8-4 win over the Pelicans. With the win the Keys took the series finishing its first week-long road trip with a 2-4 record.

Frederick sent nine men to the plate in the first inning and topped the feat in the third inning. The Keys sent ten men to the plate scoring five runs on seven hits in the third inning alone to blow the game open leading 8-1.

A night after the bullpen was taxed, working nine innings, Keys starter Nate Nery pitched a gem going a season-high seven innings for his first win of the season. Nery retired 12-straight Pelicans during one stretch, and exited the game with a six-run lead.

The Keys head home to take on Winston-Salem Monday, May 3rd at 7:00 p.m. It is Kids Eat Free Monday and Cole McCurry will make the start for Frederick. For tickets contact the Keys Box Office at 1-877-8-GO-KEYS or purchase online at frederickkeys.com.
