Lynchburg Hillcats News Release
The Lynchburg Hillcats powered their way to victory on the back of three home runs to knock off the Charleston RiverDogs 7-5 on Tuesday night.
Bubba Filia had a two-home run game, totaling five RBI's over the course of the night. Lexer Saduy also picked up a solo shot of his own in the eighth. For Charleston, Ryan Spikes had two home runs of his own to keep the RiverDogs in the game.
His first came in the second inning as he carried a ball over the right field wall to give the RiverDogs a two-run lead.
In the bottom of the second, a misplayed ball in the outfield kept the inning alive for the Hillcats as Jose Devers picked up a triple. One batter later, Filia knocked his first home run of the game on a blast to center field to tie the game.
Lynchburg would take the lead in the third inning as Maick Collado would drive home Tyresse Turner on an RBI single. Then in the fourth, Filia would deliver his second home run of the game, a three-run shot to center, to give the Hillcats a 6-2 advantage.
Charleston would strike with two runs in the fifth as Dominic Keegan drove home Cristopher Barete and Xavier Isaac with a two-run single of his own. In the eighth, Spikes would cut the deficit to one on a solo shot to left field.
However, Lynchburg would respond in the bottom of the inning as Lexer Saduy provided a much-needed insurance run on his second home run of the year. His no-doubter bounced off the right field scoreboard to make it 7-5.
Charleston would have the go-ahead run at the plate before Tomas Reyes slammed the door shut for his first save of the season.
Lynchburg and the RiverDogs will square off for game two of the series Wednesday evening at 6:30 at Bank of the James Stadium.
