THE HILLCATS: Last night Lynchburg got trounced 16-2 by Potomac as the two teams split a four-game series...The Hillcats concluded a seven-game homestand by going 3-4 and now begin a six-game road trip tonight in Salem...

VS. SALEM: Last season Salem dominated the season series taking 16 of the 20 games between the two...Including an 8-2 record against the Hillcats in Salem...This season Salem has won four-out-of-seven...The Avs have the advantage in the all-time series 140-118 and are 80-51 at home against the Cats...

BLASTED: Last night Lynchburg allowed a season-high 16 runs and 23 hits to Potomac in their most lopsided loss of the season...Potomac previously held the mark for most hits off Lynchburg when they pounded 21 hits on May 27th at Pfitzner Stadium in a 13-5 victory...Last season the Hillcats allowed a team-high 22 runs on 24 hits at Kinston on August 22nd...

SECOND OVERALL PICK: Yesterday the Pittsburgh Pirates selected 3B Pedro Alvarez with the second overall selection in the 2008 first year player draft...In three seasons at Vanderbilt the slugger collected a combined 49 homers and 160 RBI...Last season the Pirates selected LHP Daniel Moskos with their first-round pick (fourth overall)...Wednesday night Moskos improved to 4-3 by tossing six scoreless innings for the win...

SERIES SLIDE: With the four-game series split against Potomac, the Hillcats have failed to win eight consecutive series...They last won a set when they took two-out-of-three from Winston-Salem at City Stadium June 5-7...

BIG BATS: The Hillcats matched their season-high for runs scored on Tuesday/Wednesday night by putting up 14 runs in their suspended game against the P-Nats...In the second game on Wednesday night Lynchburg scored six more runs and Jim Negrych and Jamie Romak swacked the Cats first back-to-back long balls of the season...

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: OF Jamie Romak was named Carolina League Player of the Week on Monday...Over the seven day stretch the slugger batted .407 (11-for-27) with four home runs, two doubles, 11 runs scored, ten RBI and a slugging percentage of .926...Romak now has 10 home runs in 32 games after he led the team with 15 homers last season in 85 games played...

CHANGED MAN: RHP Jared Hughes tossed his second excellent start in a row Monday night as he worked five and 2/3 innings of scoreless baseball...In his last two outings Hughes has combined to pitch 12 and 2/3 innings and has allowed just two runs on six hits, struck out 11 and walked only three...Monday night was just the second start all season a Hillcats starter has not allowed a run and the 2006 fourth round selection has now pitched 12 and 1/3 consecutive innings without allowing a run...Prior to these last two outings the righty was 1-7 with a 5.59 ERA and was 0-4 with a 7.27 ERA over his last six starts...

SILENCED BATS: Monday night Lynchburg and Potomac combined for only one run in their nine inning ballgame...The two starting pitchers did not allow a run in a combined 14 innings of work...In the Cats and Nats series in Woodbridge last week the two teams combined for 71 runs in four games, with one of the two teams scoring double digits in every contest...The Nationals twice scored a season-high in runs and bashed 21 hits (the most allowed by Lynchburg this season) in their 13-5 win on May 27th...The Hillcats scored 13 runs the next day (the most Potomac has allowed this year) in their own 13-5 victory...
