(LYNCHBURG, VA) The Lynchburg Hillcats returned the favor a night after they were shut out by the Potomac Nationals, cruising to a mirror image 3-0 victory Friday at City Stadium.

James Avery was great for six innings; he held the Nats scoreless and yielded just three hits with five strikeouts and just one walk. Justin Freeman, Bill Bray and Donnie Joseph pitched the last three innnings to complete the shutout, the Nats' fourth in 2010.

Adrian Alaniz again worked under duress throughout his outing. The righthander had at least two baserunners in four of the six innings in which he appeared. All told, the Hillcats banged out ten hits against the University of Texas product.

Lynchburg broke the seal in the second inning. After a leadoff single by Jose Gualdron, Kevin Feiner grounded into a fielders choice. Feiner moved to second on Miguel Rojas's groundout to first, and scored when Jordan Wideman singled to left.

Wideman scored the second Hillcats run in the fifth; he led off the frame with his second straight single. After moving to second on a Josh Fellhauer sacrifice bunt, he scored on Carlos Mendez's single to right field.

The Hillcats capped their scoring in the sixth, Alaniz's last inning. A leadoff double by Neftali Soto was cashed in when Gualdron and Feiner singled to chase the Nats' starter.

The Nats had two aboard in the eighth, but Bray got Bill Rhinehart to ground into a fielder's choice to end the threat.

Joseph worked his way around a leadoff walk with a pair of strikeouts to earn his second save.

The two teams are back at it Saturday night at 6:05 P.M. Lynchburg will send 2008 Major League All Star Edinson Volquez to the hill against Brad Peacock. The broadcast can be heard beginning at 5:50.
