Hillcats Fall to RiverDogs
June 15, 2023 - Carolina League (CarL)
Lynchburg Hillcats News Release
The Charleston RiverDogs pick up their first win on the series after defeating the Lynchburg Hillcats by a score of 7-3 on Thursday evening.
Charleston started the scoring and kept adding to their total putting it out of reach before the Hillcats could pick up their third hit. Lynchburg was held quiet at the plate before scoring all three of their runs in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Dominic Keegan got the RiverDogs started in the first inning for the second night in a row as he drove home Xavier Isaac to give them the lead. Angel Galarraga would double their total in the second inning as he brought Cristopher Barate home. Then in the third, Jhon Diaz would bring Ryan Spikes home as he grounded into a fielder's choice.
The game would remain a three-run deficit for Lynchburg until the seventh inning when Charleston would load up the bases with no one out. After a balk from Samuel Vasquez allowed one runner to score, Diaz would clear the bases with a double to put the RiverDogs up by six.
Lynchburg would cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the eighth after Bubba Filia doubled home Juan Benjamin to open the frame. He would score on a Guy Lipscomb single to center field two batters later. Lipscomb would be plated by Angel Genao who picked up his fourth double of the year.
Genao was the only Hillcat to pick up two base hits.
Charleston would get one of those runs back after two errors opened the ninth inning before Spikes would drive Isaac home on a sacrifice fly to right. From there, Lynchburg would be retired to end the ballgame.
The Hillcats and RiverDogs will battle it out once again in game four at Bank of the James Stadium on Friday night at 6:30 p.m.
