
Hillcats Clean up in Potomac

Woodbridge, VA - The Hillcats swept their third double-header of the season and second in two days against the Potomac Nationals Sunday afternoon. The 'Cats completed their first sweep of the season with the two wins, and have now won seven of their last eight games.
Lynchburg scored first in game one Sunday. Todd Cunningham tripled on the first pitch of the game and scored on a sacrifice fly on the next pitch making 1-0 'Cats.
Potomac tied the game up in the second. J.P. Ramirez doubled to lead off the inning. Sandy Leon sacrificed Ramirez to third, and two batters later Ramirez scored on a fielder's choice.
Cunningham set the table again in the third with a one-out single, and stole second base. Phil Gosselin singled to score Cunningham two batters later, putting Lynhcburg up 2-1.
The Nationals' third baseman Justin Bloxom singled home Jeff Kobernus in the fifth to tie the game up again, then 2-2. Bloxom went on to commit a costly two-out error in the top of the sixth, which led to the Hillcats taking the lead 3-2.
Willie Kempf (3-3) started for the Hillcats. He tossed five innings, allowing two earned runs, on six hits and four walks, while striking out three, earning his third win of the season. Cameron Selik suffered the loss, allowing three runs, two earned through five and two-thirds innings. Ryan Buchter relieved Kempf, pitching two scoreless frames, recording his first save for the Hillcats. Lynchburg held on to win 3-2.
Potomac took the early lead in game two with two runs in the bottom of the first. Ramirez singled in two runs with the bases loaded and one out putting the Nationals up 2-0.
The Hillcats took the lead from Potomac in the top the second. Shawn McGill singled home a run with runners at second and third. Then, Barrett Kleinknecht doubled to score two more runs and put Lynchburg on top 3-2.
Lynchburg held on to the lead the rest of the game, adding insurance runs in the sixth and seventh on solo homeruns for Joey Terdoslavich and L.V. Ware.
Andrew Wilson pitched a perfect seventh with the Hillcats up 5-2, to earn his third save of the season.
Blaine Sims (1-0) started game two for Lynchburg., and got credit for his first professional win, after he completed five innings, allowing two earned runs on four hits.
The Hillcats improved to 21-27 with two more wins Sunday. They remain in third place in the Carolina League Northern Division.
