Frederick Keys News Release
The Keys were able to make history in Salem on Sunday afternoon. For the first time since August of 1998, Frederick swept a four-game road series. The Keys capped off the weekend with a 4-3 win over the Salem Red Sox. For the third time in the series, Frederick scored in the top of the first inning and they never trailed on Sunday in Salem. RHP Ryohei Tanaka picked up the win after he allowed one run over five innings in the spot start. With the win, the Keys improved to 28-21 on the season.
Frederick was able to jump on LHP Chris Hernandez early on Sunday. With one out, Bobby Stevens walked. With LF Kipp Schutz at the plate, Stevens swiped second base. Schutz then brought Stevens home when he doubled to right field. 1B Tyler Kolodny followed with a RBI single to give the Keys a two-run advantage entering the home half of the first.
Salem cut the deficit in half after CF Shannon Wilkerson hit a solo home run to left field off Ryohei Tanaka. Unfazed by the solo blast, Tanaka tossed a season-high five innings en route to his second win of the year.
Bobby Stevens capped off his incredible series with a RBI triple in the fifth inning. Stevens finished the four-game set 7-for-14 with two doubles, a triple, and five runs scored. The Keys scored another run in the sixth inning on a suicide squeeze. C Brian Ward placed the bunt down and Tyler Kolodny scored from third. The Keys fourth run of the game proved to be pivotal.
The Red Sox scored a run in the seventh and the eighth but RHP Sean Gleason tossed a 1-2-3 bottom of the ninth to close out the series. Gleason picked up his 12th save of the year on the afternoon.
The Keys return home on Monday afternoon for a Memorial Day matinee against the Myrtle Beach Pelicans. RHP Oliver Drake (2-2, 3.00) will get start for Frederick while the Pelicans will turn to RHP Barrett Loux (4-3, 3.40).
First pitch on Memorial Day is set for 4:00 p.m. at Harry Grove Stadium. For tickets call 1-877-8-GO-KEYS or purchase online at www.frederickkeys.com.
