Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release
RHP Elisaul Pimentel (3-2, 3.86) at RHP Justin Grimm (---, -.--)
ABOUT LAST NIGHT...: Joe Wieland's seven shutout innings were backed by three Pelicans home runs as Myrtle Beach beat the Wilmington Blue Rocks 4-0 for their fourth straight win. Jared Prince and Vinny DiFazio had solo shots in the second and fourth innings respectively. Mike Olt added on with a two-run blast in the sixth. Wilmington starter Noel Arguelles threw behind the next batter DiFazio and was immediately ejected. The long balls were more than enough for Wieland, who allowed only five hits. Kasey Kiker and Chad Bell both worked scoreless innings in relief to hand the Blue Rocks their first shutout loss of the season With Salem losing again to Frederick, the Pelicans extended their lead in the Carolina League's Southern Division to four and a half games.
DON'T WALK: Joe Wieland's strong start last night was once again without a walk. It was the seventh straight start in which the right-hander did not issue a base on balls. He last walked a batter on April 18 against Winston-Salem. Joe has now gone 48 and one-third innings without walking anyone, striking out 60 batters during that span. His overall total of 70 strikeouts leads the Carolina League, as does his paltry 1.53 ERA.
