Potomac Nationals News Release
(WOODBRIDGE, VA) Bernie Carbo, the former major leaguer made most famous for his game-tying home run in Game 6 of the 1975 World Series will pay a visit to Pfitzner Stadium on June 11th.
Carbo's pinch-hit home run tied Game 6 - the ballgame recently named the greatest of all time by the MLB Network - for the Boston Red Sox against the Cincinatti Reds, Carbo's former club and the team that drafted him 16th overall in the first ever Major League Baseball Draft.
Fittingly the Nationals play the Salem Sox, the Carolina League affiliate of the Boston Red Sox on the 11th.
The blast prolonged the game and set the stage for Carlton Fisk's legendary game winner in the bottom of the 12th, one of the enduring images in World Series history.
Carbo has since founded the Diamond Club Ministry, an organization committed to helping children discover the joys in the game of baseball and delivering a message of faith.
Carbo spent over a decade in the Major Leagues and played for the Reds, Red Sox, St. Louis Cardinals and Cleveland Indians.
Carbo was drafted ahead of Johnny Bench and had an unbelievable rookie season: he posted career highs in batting average (.310), home runs (21), runs batted in (63), hits (113), on base percentage (.454), slugging average (.551), OPS (1,005) and games played (125), and was named the Sporting News Rookie of the Year.
Carbo will not be the only big name at Pfitzner Stadium Saturday the 11th of June; newly named George Mason basketball coach Paul Hewitt will be on hand and will throw out the ceremonial first pitch.
Hewitt spent eleven seasons as the head man at Georgia Tech before joining the Patriots after the 2011 season.
There are good seats available for the ballgame and the homestand. To reserve yours now, visit the ballclub online at www.potomacnationals.com or call the ticket office at 703-590-2311.
