HILLSBORO, OR - The most dramatic and, in four of five games thus far, most gut-wrenching series of the season for the Vancouver Canadians continued Saturday night with a 6-5 loss to the Hillsboro Hops at Ron Tonkin Field.

Trailing 3-0 after a three-run third for the Hops, Vancouver rallied for a run in the seventh inning to get on the board. Harry Ray singled and later scored on a Steward Berroa two-out RBI base hit to make it 3-1.

A four-run eighth seemed, at the time, to be enough to rally late for a second consecutive win. Singles from Addison Barger and Miguel Hiraldo plus a walk to P.K. Morris loaded the bases before a pitching change. Ray came up again two batters later and laced his first triple of the season the opposite way into the corner in right field to score three and put Vancouver in front 4-3. Mack Mueller followed with a base hit up the middle that added to the lead.

The bottom of the inning started smoothly enough. Naswell Paulino (L, 1-1) - who went four scoreless from the fourth to the seventh - retired the first two batters but walked a 0-for-the-series Adrian Del Castillo on five pitchers to bring the tying run to the plate. Tristin English was next; he lofted a fly ball to centerfield that should have been the final out of the inning but was instead misplayed into a double that put runners at second and third for Spencer Brickhouse. The Zebulon, NC native authored another mind-boggling moment for the Hops by cracking a 3-2 pitch over the right field wall for a go-ahead three-run homer, his second three-run jack of the series.

Trailing 6-5 to start the ninth, Barger singled with one out to put the tying run on base but the C's failed to recapture any momentum and fell to two games below .500 with their third one-run loss of the week.

Barger led the offense in the hit column, rapping out three knocks for the third time this year. His 13 multi-hit games are the most on the roster. Ray was part of all five runs the C's scored; he came home twice and set a new personal best this year with three RBI. Berroa and Hiraldo added two this apiece, the latter of whom extended his hitting streak to seven games.

Hunter Gregory made the start and was dominant for the first two innings before giving up a trio of runs in the third. He walked one and K'd five over the nine outs he recorded.

Tonight's loss means the Canadians have dropped the series to the Hops, but they will look to finish the week on a high note tomorrow afternoon. Vancouver sends Alejandro Melean to the slope while Hillsboro counters with Marcos Tineo. Coverage begins with C's On Deck presented by A&W at 12:30 p.m. on Sportsnet 650 followed by first pitch at 1:05 p.m.

The C's return to Nat Bailey Stadium May 31-June 5 to take on the Spokane Indians (Rockies). For tickets and more information, visit CanadiansBaseball.com.
