QMJHL Charlottetown Islanders

High-Powered Isles Offense Heads to Halifax for Clash with Mooseheads

Charlottetown Islanders News Release

The top dogs in the QMJHL are on the road once again.

The league-leading Charlottetown Islanders make their way to Halifax for the second time this season to take on the Mooseheads, the third matchup overall between the two teams.

The Islanders (8-1-0-0) earned their top spot in the league after last weekend's 4-2 defeat of the Acadie-Bathurst Titan. It was a hard-earned victory over the team that they ousted from the peak of the mountain, trading goals before Thomas Casey eventually buried the game-winning goal with minutes to spare in the game. The 20-year-old Charlottetown native has been an integral part of this team's success, having recorded a point in every game to start the season and sitting second overall in QMJHL scoring with an astounding 17 points in just nine games.

Joining Casey atop the Q standings continues to be his over-age teammate, Cedric Desruisseaux. The Victoriaville native has been a goal scoring machine already this season, currently the only player in the QMJHL to break double digits in goals scored. Already with 11 goals on the season, he needs just three more to match his total from all of last season.

The Mooseheads (3-5-2-0) meanwhile will be looking for a little retribution, having fallen to the Islanders handily 7-1 just one week ago. It was one of the few times their offense had faltered in their past few games, having consistently scored more than three goals per game prior to that defeat. The offense continues to be led by Philadelpha Flyers draft pick Elliot Desnoyers and 2021 NHL Draft prospect Zachary L'Heureux. The duo, who arrived from the Moncton Wildcats as part of the Benoit-Olivier Groulx and Jared McIsaac trades, have accounted for 12 of the team's 37 goals and sit first and second overall in points respectively.

Halifax's already-fun offense found out just yesterday that they'll be getting a small boost in a few week's time; second year American forward Zack Jones was granted approval to enter Canada after international student protocols changed in Halifax. The Saint Mary's University student has arrived in Halifax and has begun his two-week quarantine period before he joins his teammates back on the ice. The forward scored 15 goals last season and will be looked upon to shoulder some of the load up front in a top-six role.

As always, all of tonight's action can be heard on Fair Isle Ford Isles Radio on YouTube. Wanna watch live? The action will be live on Eastlink Channel 610, and Boston Pizza and The Factory Downtown will have the game on too!
