The Moncton Wildcats (5-4-0-0) scored two goals in the third period to hand Saint John (2-5-2-1) a 4-3 loss on Friday night at the Avenir Centre.

Creed Jones started in goal for Saint John, his first start since October 24th. Moncton once again turned to 20-year-old Dakota Lund-Cornish in net.

Saint John were without defenceman Hunter Gartley and forwards Julian Vander Voet and Leighton Carruthers (healthy scratches).

19-year-old forward and Ottawa Senators prospect Phillippe Daoust got the Wildcats on the board at 9:01 with a power play marker. Five minutes later Cam MacDonald came bursting in with speed and got a shot off on Dakota Lund-Cornish who made the initial save, but Liam Leonard was there to knock in the rebound for his first of the season, tying the game. Creed Jones was sharp in the first period making several highlight reel saves towards the end of the period. Shots after the first period were tied 15 all.

One minute into the second Nicholas Girouard picked up a rebound at the hash marks and ripped home his fourth of the season to put Saint John ahead 2-1. The lead was short lived as Jordan Spence scored another power play goal for the Wildcats at 3:20 on a slapshot from the point. At 10:32 Jérémie Poirier corralled the puck at the blueline and let a blast go that ricocheted off the end boards and back out front where Brady Burns was waiting to tap it home for his first of the season giving Saint John a 3-2 lead. Jones was tested throughout the second as Moncton registered 22 shots in the period but the 20-year-old netminder stayed strong and the team took a 3-2 lead into the final frame.

Philippe Daoust scored his second of the game at 6:43 of the third to tie it 3-3. Two minutes later a Wildcats shot from the point was tipped in the slot and wound up just under the crossbar to give Moncton the lead. Saint John pulled Jones with 1:07 remaining for the extra attacker and had pressure in front of Lund-Cornish with seconds to go but the buzzer sounded handing the Wildcats the 4-3 win.

Jérémie Poirier and Cam MacDonald each finished with two assists and were +1. Creed Jones was awarded second star for his 45 save performance.
