High-flying Eagles roll to five-game winning streak

November 12, 2012 - ECHL (ECHL) News Release

After posting just one win in its first seven games this season, Colorado has responded in a big way, putting together a five-game winning streak over which the Eagles have outscored their opponents 35-9.

Last week, the Eagles swept a three-game home series against Utah, scoring at least six goals in each of the three games.

Colorado started the series with a bang, scoring 10 times in a 10-1 win on Wednesday, highlighted by a 4-for-7 performance on the power play. Trent Daavettila led the way with four points (1g-3a) while Riley Nelson scored three goals and Kyle Ostrow (3a) and Michael Forney (1g-2a) also contributed three points. Twelve of the Eagles' 16 skaters in the game notched at least one point, and all 16 skaters were at least a +1.

On Friday, the Eagles broke open a one-goal game with three third-period goals en route to a 6-3 win. Collin Bowman scored a pair of goals, and once again, Colorado's power play was on top of its game scoring three goals in seven opportunities.

The series concluded on Saturday with Colorado skating away with a 6-2 win. Jack Combs notched four points (1g-3a) and Chad Costello notched the Eagles' second hat trick in three games. Tyler Plante made his Colorado debut in goal and earned the win with 23 saves.

Colorado's offensive awakening over the last five games has moved the Eagles to top of the ECHL scoring chart, with an average of 4.67 goals per game, while the club ranks second on the power play at 29.6 percent (21-for-71).

Reigning ECHL Most Valuable Player Costello leads the league with 23 points (6g-17a) while Combs is second with 22 points (8g-14a). Forney is on top of the league with 10 goals, and his 33.3 percent shooting percentage (10-for-30) ranks second in the league. The Eagles also boast the top two players in the league's plus-minus rankings with Joey Sides on top at +12 and Jason Beatty second at +11.
