VISALIA, CA - The High Desert Mavericks (23-12) hit two home runs in the first three innings and cruised to a 7-2 win over the Visalia Rawhide (22-11) at Recreation Ballpark on Friday night in the series opener.

The Mavericks showed why they lead the California League in long balls on Friday night, connecting for two in three innings to jump out to the early 3-1 lead. 1B Tripp Martin blasted a two-run homer over the left field wall in the second for his ninth of the year and then in the third, CF Jose Cardona followed suit with his first of the season and it was 3-1 High Desert.

Sanchwhiched in between the Mavericks home runs, LF Victor Reyes sent one of his own over the scoreboard in right-centerfield that, at the time, made it a 2-1 game.

In the sixth, RHP Brad Keller's (2-2, 4.18) last frame, High Desert added two runs after Cardona walked and 2B Travis Demeritte singled, RF Luke Tendler brought them both home with a double for a 5-1 lead.

Keller had his string of consecutive quality starts snapped at four after pitching six innings and allowing five runs (earned) on six hits and five strikeouts, taking the loss.

Against RHP Cole Wiper (3-0, 4.14), Visalia couldn't muster much offense after the Reyes long ball. In the sixth 1B Marty Herum doubled and came around when DH Grant Heyman singled for a 5-2 game, but that was it for the Rawhide.

Wiper ended up going 5.1 innings and was straddled with two runs (earned) on seven hits; he walked one and struck out three in the win.

High Desert tacked on a run in the seventh against RHP Jency Solis and a run in the ninth against RHP Miller Diaz. SS Michael De Leon hit RBI singles in both frames scoring DH Seth Spivey to complete the 7-2 win for the Mavericks.

The series continues tomorrow with a 7:00 p.m. first pitch from Recreation Ballpark. Visalia sends LHP Josh Taylor (0-3, 6.19) to the mound against RHP Luis Ortiz (2-2, 2.91) for the Mavericks.
