Lancaster JetHawks News Release

LANCASTER, Calif. - Brock Dykxhoorn tossed six nearly flawless innings and the JetHawks hit a pair of solo home runs to knock off the Lake Elsinore Storm, 2-1, in the series opener on Friday night at The Hangar.

Dykxhoorn (2-1) threw 60 of his 83 pitches for strikes and allowed only two hits, both in the second inning. He walked one and struck out two. The right-hander retired the storm in order four times and set down the first two batters in each of his six innings of work.

Ryan Deemes and Ryan Thompson retired all nine hitters they faced out of the Lancaster bullpen. Deemes, who was making his JetHawks debut after being called up from Quad Cities yesterday, got the first five and struck out two. Thompson picked up a four-out save, his first of the season. Deemes needed just 15 pitches for his five outs, while Thompson got his four on only 11. Overall, the three JetHawks pitchers set down the final 13 Lake Elsinore batters and 22 of the final 23.

All of the scoring in the game came in the second inning. With two out in the top of the inning, Luis Tejada doubled and Trae Santos followed with an RBI single.

In the bottom half, Nick Tanielu led off with a solo home run to left on a 1-2 pitch from Lake Elsinore starter Brett Kennedy (0-1), who was making his High-A debut. Three batters later, Jason Martin snuck his first long ball of the season just inside the right field foul pole for the eventual game-winning run. Martin, mired in a 3-for-34 slump coming in, walked and doubled in his next two at-bats. He also stole a base, one of six on the night for the JetHawks.

The JetHawks had multiple chances to break the game open, but went 0-for-10 with runners in scoring position and left 10 on base.

The JetHawks and Storm continue their four-game series tomorrow night at The Hangar. Matt Bower (0-0) will start for Lancaster in his High-A debut against Michael Kelly (1-3). First pitch is 6:05 p.m.

The JetHawks are celebrating their 20th anniversary season in Lancaster. Great ticket packages and group events are on sale now at jethawks.com or by calling (661) 726-5400.
