Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

San Bernardino, CA - Andrew Sopko pitched well over six innings and Kyle Garlick broke things open with a three-run double, as the Quakes got back on track with a 5-2 victory over the Inland Empire 66ers on Friday night at San Manuel Stadium.

A five-run fifth inning was all Rancho Cucamonga needed, as the Quakes won for the fifth time in their last six games overall and for the seventh straight time against Inland Empire this year.

Sopko allowed just one hit over his first four innings, but had no run support, as the game was scoreless going to the top of the fifth inning.

The Rancho offense finally got going though, as former big-leaguer Josh Roenicke, making just his second appearance out of the Inland Empire bullpen, allowed the first four hitters he faced to reach to open the fifth. With the bases loaded and no outs, Pin-Chie Chen drew a walk, putting the Quakes on the board at 1-0. After Roenicke (0-1) got the next two hitters, Garlick delivered a bases-clearing double to left-center, making it 4-0. Matt Beaty followed with an RBI single, driving in Garlick to make it 5-0.

Sopko (4-0) got touched for his only run of the night in the fifth, as Ayendy Perez doubled and scored on a Tim Arakawa single, making it 5-1.

Luis De Paula followed in the seventh and allowed a run to score to make it 5-2, but needed help from Joe Broussard, who got the final out and left the bases loaded. Broussard worked a 1-2-3 eighth and Scott Griggs pitched around Rancho's third error of the night in the ninth inning, securing his team-high fifth save of the year.

The Quakes (24-11) maintain their one-game lead over High Desert in the South Division with the win. On Saturday night, Rancho will look to improve to 8-0 against Inland Empire, sending Grant Holmes (2-1) to the mound, opposite 66ers' right-hander Jake Jewell (0-4) at 7:05pm.

The Quakes will return to LoanMart Field on Friday, May 20th, as 1,500 fans will take home a Corey Seager Bobblehead, thanks to Allstar KIA. Game time is 7:05pm and tickets are available at (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com. We hope to see you at LoanMart Field very soon...Go Quakes!
