First-Inning Outburst Wasted in 11-7 Loss

San Jose, CA - A four-run first was for not in the Modesto Nuts 11-7 loss to the San Jose Giants at Municipal Stadium on Saturday night.

With two outs in the first, Drew Weeks cracked a two-run double for the Nuts (14-21). Collin Ferguson followed with a two-run blast, his second homer in the last three games.

All the early capital was wiped out in the bottom of the second when the Giants (20-13) plated eight runs against Nuts starter Carlos Polanco (L, 1-2). Jonah Arenado whacked a leadoff homer and recorded a RBI double with two outs in the inning. C.J. Hinojosa drove in two. Steven Duggar walked with the bases loaded. Chris Shaw popped a RBI double.

Polanco could not finish the second frame and left after 1.2 innings having allowed seven runs on five hits with three walks and just two strikeouts.

Omar Carrizales extended his hitting streak to eleven games going 3-for-5 with a single, double and RBI triple.
