Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release

FARGO, ND - In the series between the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (7-6) and Sioux City Explorers (6-8) at Newman Outdoor Field, 34 runs were scored in the first two games, Tyler Herron turned the tide when he blanked the Explorers and allowed only one hit and no walks in his team's 6-0 victory on Wednesday. The hit came from the leadoff man in the second inning, so Herron sat down 24 consecutive batters to end the night.

Herron was constantly ahead in the count, putting pressure on the batters and striking out nine. He was also given plenty of offensive and defensive assistance. The RedHawks committed no errors after having three in each of the previous two games. Offensively they were quiet until the fifth, when they put four on the board. Kes Carter broke out of his slump with a solo shot to lead things off. Ryan Pineda, Keury De La Cruz, and Josh Mazzola provided back-to-back-to-back RBIs later on.

The fifth and sixth innings both had the home team adding in a run. Carter scored on an RBI by Pineda in the fifth. K.D. Kang continued his hot play with a double, bringing in Brian Humphries in the sixth. Humphries extended his hit streak to eleven games with a single and a double.

Speaking of streaks, Herron's fantastic play stretched his scoreless inning streak to 23.1 innings to start the season. His ERA sits at an absurd 0.00 and his K/9 is 8.57. Another incredible ratio is his strikeouts to walks, at 11/1, which displays the great command the 6'3" right-hander has while on the mound.

Herron moved to 2-0 on the season with the win and Eric Wordekemper (1-1) took the loss. The RedHawks are off on Thursday and will travel to Sioux Falls to start a six-game roadtrip with a three-game series against the Canaries on Friday.
