Herrera Sent to Padres to Finalize Blanks Trade

BELOIT, Wisc - Beloit RHP Ronald Herrera has been sent to the San Diego Padres as part of the May 15 trade in which the Oakland A's acquired outfielder/first baseman Kyle Blanks for minor league outfielder Jake Goebbert and a player to be named later.
Herrera is coming off a 2-run, 2-hit performance (7 IP) at Miller Park against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers and is 3-4 on the season with a 3.38 ERA. Opposing batters are batting .272 against the 19-year old Venezuelan and he has issued 10 walks and 35 strikeouts in 50.2 innings pitched this season. Herrera was originally signed by the A's on Dec. 11, 2011 and has compiled a 12-12 record (3.36 ERA) in his three seasons in the A's farm system. Herrera spent the 2013 season in the Arizona League and with the Vermont Lake Monsters, before spending the 2014 season with the Snappers. Herrera was originally set to start Thursday's game against Quad Cities and ranks second on the team in ERA and strikeouts. Herrera becomes the 4th Snappers' player to be traded in the last 10 months by the A's.
