
Hawks Soar Past Captains 4-1

Lake County Captains News Release
(Eastlake, OH)- Zach Esquerra singled home Jamie Westbrook to tack on an insurance run en route to beating the Lake County Captains by a final of 4-1. The Silver Hawks had a total of six hits and have now won three of four meetings against the Captains this season and took the first one at Classic Park on Wednesday Night.
South Bend (33-19) scored first. In the top of the second inning, Steve McQuail singled to center field and then Stryker Trahan hit his fifth homerun of the season over the right field wall and the Silver Hawks led 2-0.
South Bend added on in the third inning, Andrew Velazquez walked and was singled to third base by Jamie Westbrook. Daniel Palka hit a sacrifice fly to left field and the score was 3-0.
Lake County (18-35) scored a run to get on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning. Paul Hendrix doubled to begin the inning and Nellie Rodriguez also doubled to right field and the Captains cut the lead to 3-1. Hendrix finished with three hits on the night.
RHP Jordan Milbrath (1-6) started for Lake County and took the loss. Milbrath pitched five and one third innings. He allowed four hits, three earned runs, three walks and had seven strikeouts. Wander Beras pitched two and one third innings and allowed one hit, one earned run, one walk and he fanned one. Ben Heller pitched one and one third scoreless innings to finish the game for the Captains. Heller allowed one hit, two walks and he struck out two.
RHP Sean Furney (1-0) started for South Bend and earned the win. Furney allowed seven hits, one earned run and he fanned four. Tom Jameson pitched one scoreless inning for South Bend and he walked one. Daniel Gibson entered in the bottom of the eighth inning for South Bend and pitched one scoreless inning. Silvino Bracho pitched the ninth inning and earned the save. It was Bracho's seventh save of the season.
The Captains will remain home in Eastlake, OH on Wednesday to continue a six-game home stand. The South Bend Silver Hawks are in town for the middle game of a three game set. The Captains will start RHP Caleb Hamrick (1-2, 8.07) and the Hawks will counter with LHP Hector Hernandez (2-0, 2.81). First Pitch is scheduled for 11:00 AM from Classic Park.
Thursday is a special 11 AM start and the Captains will host several local schools who are participating in the Captains Reading Program.
