Portland Beavers News Release

PORTLAND, Ore. - Jon Herrera was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and Mark Redman picked up his third consecutive victory as the Colorado Springs Sky Sox defeated the Portland Beavers 5-2 before 8,053 Sunday afternoon at PGE Park.

Herrera's two-out, bases-loaded double in the fourth scored two to break a tie and give the Sky Sox (40-42) a 3-1 advantage. Herrera, who also scored after drawing a first-inning walk, later pushed a bunt single down the first base side with the bases loaded to make it a 4-2 Colorado Springs lead in the eighth.

Christian Colonel belted his fourth home run and had two RBIs, and Cory Sullivan drew three walks for the Sky Sox, who earned a split in their series with the Beavers and won for the sixth time in their last eight games.

Redman (5-2) gave up two runs and five hits in five innings of work for the win and Steven Register recorded his 13th save by avoiding trouble in the ninth.

Brian Myrow had two hits and an RBI, and Tom King and Brett Dowdy extended their hitting streaks to eight games and six games, respectively, for the Beavers, who begin a four-game series at Sacramento Monday night at 7:05 p.m.

Portland starter Josh Geer (5-7) allowed three runs, five hits and three walks across his five innings for the loss, his first since June 2.

Down 3-1, the Beavers (42-39) loaded the bases and gained back a run in the fifth, as Luis Rodriguez scored from third on an RBI groundout by Dowdy.

The clubs swapped runs in the first, as Colorado Springs took a brief lead on an RBI double from Colonel and Myrow responded with an RBI double in the bottom of the frame.

The Beavers' next home game is July 4 vs. Tacoma, a game that will feature a special post-game fireworks show at PGE Park.

NOTES: Dowdy made a leaping catch at the wall in right to save further damage in the top of the first ... before the game, the Beavers placed pitcher Sean Henn on the disabled list (retroactive to June 28) and added left-hander Justin Hampson, who was optioned to Portland on Friday, to the active roster.
