
'Birds hold off, sweep Zephyrs

Memphis, Tenn. - Memphis scored early and held off New Orleans late to sweep the Zephyrs and extend their win streak to seven games with a 3-2 win Sunday afternoon.
Brian Barden led off the bottom of the first inning with a solo home run and David Freese added his 12th round tripper with a two-run shot before the inning was over. Barden and Freese each led the Redbirds with two hits apiece. Colby Rasmus had reached base in 35 straight games but saw his streak come to an end going 0-for-4.
Jesus Feliciano provided the bulk of the offense for the Z's collecting three of the team's five hits. Val Pascucci and former Redbird John Rodriguez each drove in runs in the loss.
Memphis starter Mike Parisi was strong in 7.2 innings to earn his fifth win and third straight for the 'Birds. He scattered four hits and gave up two runs with five strikeouts. Kelvin Jimenez nailed down his third save of the series and fifth of the year. New Orleans starter Willie Collazo was pinned with the loss after allowing three runs on seven hits in seven innings.
The Redbirds welcome Nashville to AutoZone Park for a four-game series beginning tomorrow night. Memphis is scheduled to send Brad Thompson to the bump to face Sounds right-hander Richie Gardner. Game time is slated for 7:05 p.m.
