Frederick Keys News Release
The Frederick Keys overcame two deficits Tuesday night to defeat the Wilmington Blue Rocks 7-5.
The Blue Rocks threatened in the first and second innings, before scoring their first run in the third. With Frederick RHP Pedro Beato on the mound and runners on first and second, Blue Rocks 3B Mike Moustakas hit an RBI-single. Wilmington led 1-0.
The lead lasted until the bottom of the fourth. With one down, 2B Ryan Adams reached on a walk. 3B Brandon Waring then singled. The two runners moved up a base on a wild pitch, before 1B Robbie Widlansky knocked in Adams with a ground out to first, tying the game at one.
Frederick wasn't done. With one on and two down, LF Tyler Henson drilled a two-run homerun to left-center, giving the Keys a 3-1 lead.
The two-run advantage didn't last long. In the top of the fifth inning, Wilmington sent nine men to the plate, scoring three runs on four hits against Beato, to take a 4-3 lead.
The Keys took the lead right back in the bottom of the fifth. DH Wally Crancer led off the inning with a triple off the center field wall. SS Pedro Florimon followed that up with a double to center, tying the game at three.
With Florimon on third and two men down in the fifth, 2B Ryan Adams hit a slow roller over the hill. He beat it out for an infield single, knocking in Florimon, and giving the Keys a 5-4 lead.
Frederick tacked on insurance runs in the seventh and eighth innings. Florimon led off the seventh with a double. C Billy Killian sacraficed him over to third. CF Matt Angle lifted a sac fly to center, extending the lead to two.
With two men down in the eighth, Henson drilled a solo homerun, his second of the game and sixth of the season, to make it 7-4 Frederick.
The Blue Rocks tacked on an unearned run in the ninth to make the final score 7-5.
LHP Jake Stevens got the win. The southpaw tossed 1.1 innings of scoreless relief to pick up his third victory of the season. RHP Alex Caldera took the loss. Wilmington's starter tonight, Caldera allowed five earned runs over five innings of work. He drops to 1-7.
