Hudson Valley Renegades News Release

Hickory, N.C. - A huge day at the plate for Spencer Henson and five pitchers combining for a four-hit shutout led the Hudson Valley Renegades to a 6-0 win over the Hickory Crawdads on Sunday afternoon at L.P. Frans Stadium.

The Renegades took the lead in the top of the first with a two-out rally against Winston Santos. Agustin Ramirez singled and Christopher Familia followed with a walk. Spencer Henson drove the first pitch he saw down the left field line for a double to plate Ramirez and give the Renegades a 1-0 lead.

Grant Richardson tacked on a run in the top of the second with a solo home run to center, and Alexander Vargas ripped a home run off the right field foul pole leading off the top of the third. After Santos was pulled with two outs in the third, Henson greeted Gavin Collyer with a solo home run to left to extend the lead to 4-0.

Juan Carela got off to a great start, allowing just one hit and striking out four through 2.1 innings. However, after he struck out Cooper Johnson to lead off the bottom of the third with rain falling, the tarp was called and the game entered a rain delay.

After an 86-minute delay, the game resumed and the Renegades kept hitting. Henson connected for an opposite-field home run leading off the sixth against Florencio Serrano to grow the advantage to 5-0. It was Henson's second multi-homer game of the season, and gave him his 23rd home run as a Renegade, tying him with Everson Pereira for the most in franchise history.

The four home runs hit by the Renegades in the game gave them 19 for the series, the most that Hudson Valley has hit in a series this year.

In the top of the seventh, Henson added another run with a sacrifice fly to center off Spencer Mraz to run the gap to 6-0. Henson finished 4-for-4 with two runs scored, a double, two home runs and four RBIs.

After Carela exited following the rain delay, Harrison Cohen (1.2 IP), Clay Agular (1.0 IP), Luis Velasquez (2.0 IP) and Jack Neely (2.0 IP) combined to complete the second Hudson Valley shutout of the series. Velasquez (2-0) picked up the win, retiring all six batters he faced, and set down all 17 batters he faced in the series.

Hudson Valley is off on Monday before continuing its six-game road trip on Tuesday night by starting a new series with the Wilmington Blue Rocks. First pitch from Frawley Stadium is scheduled for 6:35 p.m., with coverage on the Renegades Baseball Network beginning at 6:15.

Renegades Record: 54-42, 15-15
