Winston-Salem Dash News Release
GREENSBORO, NC - Trailing 2-1 heading to the ninth, the Winston-Salem Dash put up six runs to take the series finale over the Greensboro Grasshoppers, 7-2, Sunday afternoon at First National Bank Field.
Winston-Salem (45-47) gave the ball to Josimar Cousin for the second time in the series, and the Cuba native did not disappoint. The right hander allowed only one baserunner his first time through the order, but in the fourth, the home side pushed across a run.
Greensboro (48-45) took a 1-0 lead in the fourth on a throwing error, but Cousin continued to grind through the Grasshoppers lineup. The 25-year-old came back out for the fifth and sat down Greensboro in order picking up his fourth strikeout on the day. The Dash turned to the bullpen following the fifth trailing 1-0.
Cole Duensing worked a scoreless six, and in the seventh, Winston-Salem tied the game up. Taishi Nakawake brought home his 25th RBI on the season on a groundout, but Greensboro answered right back in the bottom of the seventh. The Grasshoppers regained the lead on a RBI double by Francisco Acuna and led 2-1 heading to the eighth.
Winston-Salem went down quietly in the eighth, and the Dash were down to their final three outs trailing by a run. In the ninth, Winston-Salem found its spark.
After a hit by pitch and walk to lead off the inning, Shawn Goosenberg launched his seventh homer on the season putting the Dash in front, 4-2. The offense didn't stop there for Winston-Salem. The next two batters, Wes Kath and Nakawake, were both hit putting two on for Jacob Burke. The Miami product put the finishing touches on the Grasshoppers. Burke laced a triple to the base of the wall in left center plating two runs building the lead to four, 6-2. Burke later scored on a RBI single from Tim Elko and Winston-Salem led 7-2 heading to the bottom of the ninth.
In the bottom half, Jake Palisch got around a pair of singles to close out the Grasshoppers, 7-2.
The Dash used five pitchers to take the win, with the bullpen allowing only one run across the final four innings. Burke led the team offensively going 2-for-5 with a pair of RBI.
Winston-Salem returns home on Tuesday with the Bowling Green Hot Rods, the High-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays, coming to town. First pitch is set for 7 p.m. from Truist Stadium.
