Rapid City Rush News Release

(Wichita, KS) - The Rapid City Rush concluded their four-game road-trip with a tilt against the Wichita Thunder at the INTRUST Bank Arena on Wednesday night. Colin Hemingway picked up a hat-trick and goaltender Adam Russo turned away 31 shots for the Thunder en route to a 5-3 win. The Rush now head home to face the Fort Wayne Komets on Friday and Saturday, October 11th and 12th at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center. Tickets are still available for both games.

Colin Hemingway got his first of the game at the 3:17 mark, accepting a pass from Thomas Beauregard in the slot and breaking in alone on Danny Battochio before sliding a shot through the five-hole. Just over five minutes later, Colin Circelli set up Jeff Kyrzakos from behind the net, and Kyrzakos was able to blast a one-timer over the shoulder of Thunder goaltender Adam Russo, evening the score. Finally, with 7:10 left in the period, Hemingway would strike for his second of the game, this time breaking in from the right wing boards and snapping a wrist shot, short side, over the glove of Battochio for the 2-1 lead.

The second period saw a much different Rapid City squad as the Rush outshot the Thunder 14-6 and collected two goals to even the score. The first tally came just 1:34 into the period on Jesse Schultz's fourth goal of the season, collected on a wrist shot to the top-right corner on a partial break set up by Scott Wray. The Rush then took their first lead of the game at the midway point of the frame, a powerplay goal from Kyrzakos who netted his second of the game by firing a slapshot through a screen from the slot. Answering back for the Thunder with a powerplay goal of his own was defenseman Andrew Martens who redirected home an Alex Bourret slap-pass, tying the game at 3-all.

Despite being outshot 11-5 in the final period, the Thunder picked up the lone two goals, beginning with Colin Hemingway's third of the game. Hemingway completed the hat trick when he slammed in a backdoor pass from Brett Hemingway on a 2-on-1 chance, scoring the eventual game-winner at 7:19. Wichita captain Daniel Tetrault sealed the 5-3 win by potting an empty-net goal from 180 feet away.

Danny Battochio is now 2-2-1 after making 15 saves in the loss while Adam Russo turned aside 31 in the win.

Both sides ended the evening 1-for-5 on the powerplay.
