Stockton Heat News Release

News and Notes

- In the first two games of the season three players made their pro debuts with the Stockton Heat. During opening night on October 10, forward Hunter Smith suited up in his first pro game along with goalie Jon Gillies. On Thursday against San Jose, Austin Carroll made his pro debut with the team.

- Derek Grant scored his third of the season on 10/15 vs. San Jose. Last year it took Grant six games with the Binghamton Senators to score his third of the year. He's off to the best start he's ever had in his AHL career two games.

Can't Do Much Better than 100%

In the first two games of the season, the Stockton Heat penalty kill has been magnificent. Between Jon Gillies in net and the crop of rotating defenseman and forwards in front of him, the Heat are one of just three teams to have killed off 100% of the penalties taken. The other two are the Utica Comets and the Saint John IceCaps.

The PK unit will have to be good this week as they take on the Texas Stars who rank one spot behind them as the 10th best power play in the AHL while San Antonio has scored on a third-best 35.7% of their 14 advantages.

First Road Trip of the Season

After kicking off their inaugural season with a two-game homestand, the Heat now face their first road trip of the season as they take on the Texas Stars and San Antonio Rampage this week and follow it up next week with two games back-to-back against the San Diego Gulls.

The four-game roadie is the second longest of the season as the Heat will find themselves away from Stockton Arena for five games beginning March 19.

A Lone Star State of Mind

The Texas Stars are off to a red-hot start this season, having gone a perfect 4-0-0 to begin their season. The team opened the season with a 5-4 OT win over San Antonio before Chicago and Rockford twice, outscoring opponents 24-11 on the young season.

Last season the Adirondack Flames did play the Stars twice, once at home and once on the road, splitting the series between the teams. The Flames win came on December 5 when they took down Texas at home by a 3-2 final while they lost in the last month of the season to Texas by a 7-4 final on the road. Of players still on the team, Emile Poirier and Kenny Agostino led in production with two points against Texas last year. As for Texas, it was Justin Dowling who had 4 points in the two games vs. Adirondack during 2014-15.

However the stay in Cedar Park, Texas won't be too long as the team heads over to the AT&T Center to play the San Antonio Rampage on Saturday. After falling to Texas in their opener, the Rampage have won back-to-back games, both against Grand Rapids. Goalie Calvin Pickard picked up a 35 save shutout in the last game against Grand Rapids.

Last season the Adirondack Flames played the San Antonio Rampage four times going 3-1-0, however that team is a completely different team then the Heat will face this weekend. During 2014-15 the Rampage were affiliated with the Florida Panthers but during the offseason, the Panthers affiliation moved paving way for the Colorado Avalanche to claim San Antonio as the home of their top development. The Flames did not play the previous Colorado affiliate, the Lake Erie Monsters, last season.
