Harrisburg Heat News Release
The Harrisburg Heat came into it's home contest Saturday afternoon at the Pa Farm Show Large Arena looking for it's first win of the season, but it wouldn't be an easy task as the talented San Diego Sockers were in town and the Heat took the field without the help of three of their high profile scorers. With Val Teixeira, Adauto Neto, and Tom Mellor all out of the lineup Harrisburg played an inspired first half, but could not overcome it's third period woes to gain the victory falling by a final of 7-5.
San Diego's Matt Clare opened the scoring in the final period, his second goal of the game. Forward Lucio Gonzaga scored twice to cut the Sockers' lead to 6-5. Forward Craig Chiles scored his third goal of the game on the power play to make it 7-5 San Diego and that's how the scoring would end.
The Heat's third period struggles continued as the Sockers scored 4 unanswered goals in the frame. Anthony Medina and Jeff Hughes each scored and Craig Chiles scored two goals, one to open, and another to close the 3rd period.
The Heat led 3-1 at Halftime. Forward Patrick Thompson made it 3-1 at 10:34 of the second period. Defender Chris Williams made it 2-1 on his second goal of the game at 6:51 of the second period.
Williams opened the scoring at 12:02 of the first period to make it 1-0 Heat. Forward Matt Clare tied it a 1-1 at 14:21.
Scott Krotee took his second loss of the year in goal for the Heat, while Jesus Molina took recorded the win for San Diego playing in is first game of the season.
Harrisburg plays in Baltimore on the 18th. The Heat's next home game is 12-26 against Syracuse.
