Kansas City Comets News Release

INDEPENDENCE, MO - Following a perfect start to the Major Arena Soccer League campaign for the second year in a row, the Missouri Comets (7-1) dropped their first regular season match since February of 2014 to the Milwaukee Wave (3-2) in front of 3,311 fans at the Silverstein Eye Centers Arena.

Despite the heartbreak defeat, goalkeeper Boris Pardo was named Borden Man of the Match with a total of five saved shootouts and a total of 15 saves on 21 shots.

The Salute to Service match saw the Comets wear special edition uniforms, which were auctioned throughout the game with all proceeds going to Cars 4 Heroes.

In the first of three meetings this season, Coach Vlatko Andonovski's team was unable to take a confortable lead over a well organized and focused Milwaukee, who scored the lone goal in the first quarter via forward Max Ferdinand to make it 1-0.

However, Missouri came from behind in the second stanza to take their first lead of the match in the first four minutes when Robert and Ramone Palmer found the back of the net making it 2-1. Moments later, team captain Vahid Assadpour extended the lead before Milwaukee's Ian Bennett tallied the Wave's second making it a one-goal game once again. Kiel Williams and Marcio Leite would then each score once to end the half with a 4-3 score.

Only three goals were scored in the third quarter. Coach Giuliano Oliveiro's side found the equalizer at the 4:34 mark but three minutes later, league MVP Leo Gibson gave the reigning Central Division Champions the lead for the second time in the game. However, with two minutes left in the quarter, Bennett beat Pardo assisted by Ferdinand to end the third 5-5.

Late in the final quarter, Ramone Palmer was able to give Missouri the lead once again before the Wave put in Leite as the sixth attacker to tie the match at six with les than three minutes left in the clock.

Following an intense ten-minute overtime with multiple failed opportunities and a couple of power plays, both teams settled for a shootout definition.

Milwaukee's Bennett tried first but failed in his attempt against Pardo followed by a missed opportunity by Gibson. In the second round, Leite found the back of the net while Assadpour failed in his attempt. Ferdinand was next and also missed his shot leaving it all up to Lucas Rodriguez who was not able to beat goalkeeper Nick Vorberg after a chip attempt to end the match 7-6 in favor of Milwaukee.

Next up, the Comets return home as they host former Comets goalkeeper Danny Waltman and the Tacoma Stars on Friday, December 11 at 7:35 p.m. CT.
