Heat at Checkers Game Preview

April 8, 2012 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Abbotsford Heat News Release

Charlotte, NC - The Abbotsford Heat will play their final regular season road game this afternoon against the Charlotte Checkers, just 27 hours after yesterday's 2-1 win for the visitors. The Heat enter action sitting in fourth spot in the Western Conference while the Checkers sit seven points behind Abbotsford, in 10th place, and hold two games-in-hand on the Heat. The Heat are riding a six-game points streak that has seen five wins and a shootout loss.

After splitting a two-game set at the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre at the end of January, yesterday saw the Heat take the edge in the season series. Abbotsford fought back from a 1-0 deficit in the win to earn their 39th win of the season - which ties a franchise mark set by the 2009-10 Heat.

Krys Kolanos extended his AHL-leading goal-scoring streak to six games with a pair of goals in Saturday's win. The 30-year-old sniper also extended the Heat record for goals in a season to 28 which is two more than Jason Jaffray scored in 2009-10. Kolanos has suited up for 45 of the Heat's 73 games as injury and call-up have taken nearly 30 games from the Heat's leading scorer.

Next up for the Heat are their final two games of the regular season that sees the Toronto Marlies visit the AESC. The Marlies won both games against the Heat earlier this season in Toronto, and lead the North division, and are seeded second in the Western Conference with 93 points in 73 games.

Friday night is the Heat's final Loonie Toonie Dog 'n Brew game that offers $2 beer and $1 hotdogs and a post-game Victoria Duffield concert, while Sunday's game is Fan Appreciation Night, and will see a lucky fan win a SICK Civic courtesy Honda Way, and thousands of other giveaways. Sunday's regular season finale will be directly followed by 'Cuts for the Cure' where Heat players will shave their heads to help fundraise for the BC Cancer Foundation.

Today's broadcast of the Heat's final road game can be heard on Country 107.1 with the pre-game show beginning fifteen minutes prior to puck drop. The game starts at 3:00PM locally, Noon PDT. Broadcasts are also available on Country 107.1's website, theAHL.com, and on the Rogers Radio App for your wireless device.
