Postma Named IceCaps Most Valuable Player

The St. John's IceCaps have named Paul Postma as the club's most valuable player for 2011-12 season.
Postma was presented his MVP award by IceCaps Chief Operating Officer Glenn Stanford prior to the team's final home game of the season today at Mile One Centre.
Postma tallied 13 goals and 31 assists for 44 points in 55 games with the Atlantic Division champion IceCaps this season. The 23-year-old native of Red Deer, Alberta had a 10-game scoring streak in December and made his second consecutive AHL All-Star Classic appearance in January. Postma has also skated in three games with the parent Winnipeg Jets this season.
Postma was also named the club's Defenceman of the Year. A seventh-round draft pick of the Atlanta Thrashers in 2007, Postma was one of two representatives of the IceCaps who played in the 2012 AHL All-Star Classic in Atlantic City, N.J. in late January. A key element on one of the league's best power play units, Postma was tied for scoring amongst defenceman before injury sent him to the sidelines. He has seven goals and 17 assists with the man advantage. He is also an AHL First-Team All-Star on defence.
The IceCaps Rookie of the Year is goaltender Eddie Pasquale. The Toronto native was named to the league's All-Rookie team after a sensational freshman season.
In 34 games, the rookie netminder has posted a 21-11-1 record with a sparkling 2.39 goals-against average and a .912 save percentage with four shutouts. Pasquale was named the Reebok/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending February 12, finishing the week with a 3-0-0 record (including a shutout), a 1.32 goals-against average and a .954 save percentage. The 21-year-old started the season by winning his first six starts, and has improved his goals against average every month of the year, going from a 3.49 goals-against average in November to a 1.58 mark in March. The former 2009 fourth-round draft pick of the Atlanta Thrashers also had a seven-game winning streak from Jan. 25 to Feb. 18.
The Fans Choice Award went to veteran Garth Murray. The Regina, Sask., native has been a leader on the club all season, and has been a fan favourite from the start. Murray has three goals and 10 assists, with a team-leading 112 penalty minutes, and the respect of teammates and opponents alike.
And Jason King was named the team's Community Man of the Year. A native of Corner Brook, King took as much pride in his commitment to the community as he did in his on-ice play. A leader amongst his teammates when it came to charitable events and appearances, he was also a leader on the ice, scoring more goals than any other IceCap.
