Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Two third period goals by Trevor Olson were the key tallies which helped the Sioux City Musketeers bring the Waterloo Black Hawks' six game winning streak to an end in a 5-2 decision at Tyson Events Center Saturday.
Just 18 seconds into the third, Olson beat Mathias Israelsson with a shot inside the post to the goaltender's left, breaking a 2-2 tie. Before the period was four minutes old, Olson struck again, sending the water bottle on the top of the net sailing with a shot under the crossbar.
For the second consecutive game, the Black Hawks had been frustrated on several first period power play opportunities, allowing the Musketeers to notch the first goal of the contest early in the second. Avery Peterson jabbed a rebound over the goal line at 1:31, set up by a Jared Thomas shot. Waterloo answered with a power play breakthrough two minutes later when Zach Sanford set up Blake Winiecki with an open side. Sioux City pulled back ahead at 9:05 when Peterson redirected a Neal Pionk shot in off the crossbar. However, a steal by Peter Krieger allowed the Hawks to square the score again at 12:57 when he rifled a chance over the glove of Kyle Hayton.
Cedric Lacroix added an empty net goal with 52.1 seconds remaining in regulation to seal the decision. Hayton made 38 saves for Sioux City; Israelsson stopped 22 shots at the other end of the rink.
The Black Hawks' three-game road trip concludes Wednesday against the Tri-City Storm. Broadcast coverage for the 7:05 contest begins at 6:45 on 1650, KCNZ, and 1650thefan.com.
