Omaha Lancers News Release

RALSTON, NE - In the first of four consecutive home games, the Omaha Lancers rode a pair of first period goals and a stellar 22 save performance from rookie goaltender Hayden Hawkey to a 2-0 victory over the Tri-City Storm Saturday at Ralston Arena. With the win, the Lancers improved to 8-1-1 overall this season and with 17 points, remain alone atop the USHL's Western Conference standings.

A kooky deflection at 4:39 of the first period opened the scoring for the Lancers as leading USHL scorer, Duluth, Minnesota native and Nebraska-Omaha recruit Jake Randolph willed a Niklas Folin point shot, assisted by Jimmy Schuldt, off his right shoulder and past Tri-City backstop Jacob Johansson for his fifth goal of the season and 20th point, staking Omaha to a 1-0 lead.

Later in the period, a brilliant Luca Frigo charge down the right side of the Storm zone resulted in a visionary drop pass to Tyler Hynes that the Slingerlands, New York native buried to the stick side of Johansson to extend the Lancer advantage to 2-0.

The story of Saturday's game was undoubtedly the composed, steady play of Hawkey. In just his second USHL start, the Parker, Colorado native stopped each of the 22 Storm shots he faced to improve to 2-0-0 on the season, earn his first career USHL shutout and the sixth Omaha shutout this year.

Next up for the Lancers, it's a Sunday evening showdown with the Muskegon Lumberjacks at 5:05 pm at Ralston Arena. Full coverage of Sunday's game begins with the "Valpak Pregame Show" at 4:50 pm on the Lancers' flagship station, "The Mighty" 1290 KOIL with Lancers broadcaster Tony Brown providing the play-by-play.

In 2013-14, the five-time Anderson Cup and seven-time Clark Cup Champion Omaha Lancers drop the puck on their 28th season in the USHL.
