RiverHawk starter Scott Sobkowiak pitched eight strong innings to lead Rockford to a 2-1 win over the Cook County Cheetahs. Sobkowiak stuck out seven batters while scattering six hits as he improved to 4-5 on the year. The Cheetahs jumped on the board first in the fourth inning to take the early 1-0 lead. Rockford responded in the sixth inning and tied the ballgame 1-1 on a Tony Pigott RBI double. Pigott went 3-4 on the night to lead the âHawks bats.
Rockford continued to surge in the seventh as Mark Garner reached first on a basehit to right field. Garner then stole two consecutive bases to place him on third with two outs. Garner's aggressive base running allowed him to score on an Eric White wild pitch. Grant Williams (5-4) took the loss for Cook County. Joe Kjose picked up the save for the RiverHawks.
The RiverHawks will continue this three game set tomorrow night, July 10th, for 98 cent beer night brought to you by Q98.5 and Miller Lite. Friday night Amcore Bank, WREX and ESPN Radio present Softee Ball giveaway. Game time both nights is 7:05 p.m., and great seats are still available by calling the RiverHawks office at 964-BALL.
Midwest Championship Wrestling will be at Marinelli Field on July 12. The action starts at 7:00 p.m., with gates opening at 6:00. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased by calling the RiverHawks at 964-BALL.
The Rockford RiverHawks are hosting a Los Lobos concert in the Marinelli Field parking lot on Sunday, July 27. Gates open at 12:00 p.m. and the concert begins at 1:00 p.m. People who have tickets to the concert will get into the game for free and concessions will be open. Tickets are on sale now.
