Hillsboro Hops News Release
HILLSBORO, OR - Thursday's contest with the Boise Hawks didn't go well, and unfortunately for Hillsboro, Friday night was more of the same. Even a special, raucous appearance by Sportscenter anchor Neil Everett couldn't save the Hops, as they fell 7-1 against the Hawks. Hillsboro will try to stave off the series sweep on Saturday.
Tyler Mark got the start for Hillsboro (35-26, 13-10) looking to put a rough outing behind him. He cruised through the first inning, but Boise (22-39, 8-15) got to him in the second inning. Two singles, a double, a triple, a walk and a fielding error all led to a Boise rally, and by the time the dust settled, Hillsboro was looking at a 4-0 deficit.
The same way as last night, Boise would tack on a fifth run in the fifth inning when Jensen Park came around to score on a Mark wild pitch.
Hillsboro's offense sputtered out of the gates, and couldn't gain any traction until the bottom of the eighth inning. Stephen Dezzi doubled with one out and moved to third on a wild pitch by Ryan McCormick. Dansby Swanson then followed with a double to right to plate Dezzi, his second double of the night. Swanson appears to be turning a corner after his first home run Thursday. He has driven in nine runs through his first eight professional games and is settling into a rhythm at the plate and in the field.
The highlight of the night was Neil Everett. He did the Hops pregame video, threw out the first pitch, led the crowd in a rousing version of "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" and even did a half inning's work on the PA. The first 1500 fans through the gates received a special Neil Everett bobblehead.
The attention now turns to the series finale. Tyler Bolton, a winner in each of his last two starts, will take the mound for the Hops. Boise had entered the series with the Hops struggling, but have put together two of their strongest performances of 2015 on back-to-back nights.
Tomorrow will be a 5:03 first pitch. Tune into pregame radio at 4:30 PM on Rip City Radio 620 AM and at www.ripcityradio.com.
