Rockford RiverHawks News Release
Evansville, Ind. - The Rockford RiverHawks committed three errors Thursday night in Evansville and each one of them proved to be crucial.
The Otters capitalized on the âHawks mistakes, scoring three unearned runs and evening the series at a game apiece with a 5-4 victory.
Losing pitcher Curt Borland (1-3) came on to start the bottom of the ninth inning and gave up a one-out single to Brian McKenna. During the next at-bat, McKenna attempted to steal second and catcher Gooby Gerlits made an errant throw, allowing McKenna to take third. With two out, Denver Stuckey singled home McKenna with the unearned, game-winning run.
Rockfod's Chris DiBlasi made two errors at third base, each of them leading off an inning and each of them leading to an unearned run. His blunder in the fourth gave Evansville the chance to tie the game at 2-2. The Otters took the lead later that inning on an RBI single by Jason Mann.
The âHawks went back on top, 4-3, in the seventh on a two-run homer by Nick Johnson-his first as a RiverHawk and his eighth overall of the season.
But DiBlasi's error in the eighth helped erase Rockford's lead, as pinch-hitter Cole Hilt drove in the tying run with a two-out single.
The âHawks opened the second inning with four straight singles and were helped by an Evansville error to take an early 2-0 lead. The Otters responded with one in the bottom half of the frame on a solo homer by Beau Blacken.
The RiverHawks conclude their series in Evansville 7:05 p.m. Friday night and return to Marinelli Field Saturday to begin a three-game series against Ohio Valley. The 'Hawks are the defending champions of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league in its 13th season. All games are broadcasted live on WRHL-FM, 102.3 - the Hub.
