Portland Winterhawks News Release

The Portland Winter Hawks struck early against the Everett Silvertips on Tuesday, scoring twice in the opening seven minutes, and then Killian Hutt scored late to give the Hawks a 3-2 win on Tuesday night at the Memorial Coliseum.

The line of Joel Ridgeway, Radim Valchar and Colin Reddin got it going for Portland, with Ridgeway chipping in a set up from Valchar and Reddin just 12 seconds into the contest. The three would combine again just over six minutes later when Valchar roofed a centering pass from Reddin to give the Hawks a two-goal lead after one period.

Everett got an early power play goal from Shane Harper in the second period, but the Hawks would be forced to kill seven consecutive minutes of power play for Everett and they would do so, taking a 2-1 lead into the final period.

Everett would tie the score halfway through the final period when Markus McCrea pounded home a loose puck from in front of the goal.

Hutt's goal came after Brad Ross lifted a high pass through center that bounced into the Silvertips zone. Hutt battled Everett defenseman Taylor Ellington for possession before sliding it past goaltender Thomas Heemskerk for the game-winner.

With the win, Portland improves their record to 9-0-1-0 when leading after two periods this season.

Kurtis Mucha made 23 saves to get the victory for Portland, including a highlight reel pad save on Kellan Tochkin halfway through the third period. Heemskerk stopped 24 of 27 shots in net for Everett.

On special teams, Portland finished 0 for 3 on the power play while killing three of four chances, including a five minute major penalty in the second period. Next up, the Hawks travel to Kamloops to take on the Blazers on Friday night at 7:00.
