Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

Brandon, Manitoba - Columbus Blue Jackets draft choice Matt Calvert has been chosen February's Tip Top Tailors Player of the Month for the Brandon Wheat Kings.

The 19-year old Brandon product joins Jay Fehr, Scott Glennie, Andrew Clark and Matt Lowry as this year's recipients, capturing last month's award after helping to lead the Wheat Kings to an impressive 9-3-0 record in February.

A former member of the Brandon AAA Midget Wheat Kings, Calvert led the Western Hockey League club in scoring last month with thirteen goals and 23 points in 12 games. A fifth round draft choice of the Blue Jackets in last June's National Hockey League Entry Draft, Calvert managed to score at least a point in ten of Brandon's 12 games.

In 51 games this season, Calvert has 25 goals and 59 points. During his 2-year career, Calvert has scored 49 goals and 123 points in 123 games.

In recognition of the monthly honour, Calvert will receive a shirt, tie and suit from Tip Top Tailors in the Shoppers Mall, the official menswear clothier of the Wheat Kings during this Friday's game against the visiting Moose Jaw Warriors at Westman Place.

Tuesday night in Saskatoon, Calvert and the Wheat Kings kick off a 2-game road trip against the first place Blades. Brandon will be hoping to get back on track after losing back to back home games against Saskatoon last weekend. The Wheat Kings currently trail the Blades by eight points in the WHL's Eastern Division, with seven games remaining in the regular season.

In other Wheat Kings' related news, tickets will go on sale at 9 a.m. Wednesday for Brandon's first two playoff home games, scheduled for Friday and Saturday, March 20th and 21st. Brandon clinched home ice advantage for round one of post-season play last week with a 4-2 victory over the Lethbridge Hurricanes.

Tickets will be available at the Keystone Centre box office, online at ticketmaster.ca or by phone at 726-3555.
