Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Waterloo, Iowa-The Waterloo Black Hawks will be well represented next month during the World Junior A Challenge in Langley, British Columbia.
Four Black Hawks players, associate head coach Shane Fukushima, and trainer Todd Klein were all part of the U.S. National Junior Select Team revealed by USA Hockey Friday. Defenseman Ian McCoshen and forwards Tony Cameranesi, Vince Hinostroza, and A.J. Michaelson each earned a slot on the 22-man roster. The quartet will be the first Black Hawks to play in the event since Nick Sorkin in 2009. Twenty members of the United States squad are from the USHL.
The Junior Selects are the three-time defending champions at the event, including the 2010 entry coached by P.K. O'Handley. The United States has had a team in the World Junior A Challenge each year since 2007.
For Hinostroza, it will be the second time he has worn red, white, and blue in three months. In August, the 17-year-old skated for the United States during the under-18 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament in Slovakia. Klein also has experience in international competition, working with several previous Junior Select Teams at this event and the Viking Cup tournament.
The U.S. National Junior Select Team begins play at the World Junior A Challenge on November 7th versus Czech Republic. The event runs through November 13th. Other participating nations include Sweden, Russia, and teams representing eastern and western Canada.
