Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Waterloo, Iowa-Hundreds of Iowans are awaiting a life-changing organ or tissue transplant, and the list includes more than one devoted Waterloo Black Hawks fan.

In an effort to call attention to the difference one person can make by registering as an organ donor, the Black Hawks and 105.7, KOKZ are sponsoring Organ Donor Awareness Night Saturday when Waterloo hosts the Dubuque Fighting Saints. All fans who show a donor ID card, endorsed drivers license, or who register during the game will have the opportunity to win a game-used, autographed hockey stick and two tickets to a future Black Hawks game.

"I think people would be surprised to learn that there are several Waterloo Black Hawks fans amongst them at Young Arena who are directly affected by organ donation, along with over 120,000 other people in the United States," said David Mahncke, a season ticket holder who is scheduled to receive a kidney transplant in December. "Organ donor awareness is so important, because you can't take your organs with you after you're gone, but they could help someone else keep living."

According to the Iowa Donor Network, more than 1,000 organ or tissue donations originated in the state last year. One person can directly affect the lives of as many as 50 patients in need of a transplant.

Saturday's game begins at 7:05 p.m. Tickets are available from waterlooblackhawks.com or by calling (319) 291-7680.
