
'Hawks Early Lead Holds up in 7-4 Victory

(South Bend, IN) - Rudy Flores hit a three run homerun off the scoreboard in right field to put the Silver Hawks (19-14) in front, and they never looked back in a 7-4 win over Lake County (16-16) on Thursday. In the first inning, Brandon Drury knocked in a run and scored on the homer and South Bend led 4-0. Three of the four runs were earned in the inning.
The Captains put a run on the scoreboard in the top of the second inning. Joe Sever was hit by a pitch and then motored home from second base on a double by Zack MacPhee and the score was 4-1 Silver Hawks.
South Bend scored two more runs in the third inning. The Hawks took advantage of two errors and a passed ball in the inning. Rudy Flores added an RBI single to his night and at that point had four RBI on the night. The score was 6-1.
Lake County scored single runs in the fourth and fifth innings. In the fourth inning, with runners at the corners and one out, Eric Hasse grounded into a double play and a run came home to score. At that point it was a 6-2 game. It became 6-3 when Yhoxian Medina doubled, and moved to third on a passed ball. Medina scored on a groundout by Todd Hankins.
South Bend scored another run in the bottom of the fifth. Rudy Florez got his third hit, this time a double to begin the inning. Flores moved to third base on the fourth error of the night on Lake County, and later scored on a single by Michael Perez. The score was 7-3.
Lake County tacked on a run in the eighth inning. Joe Sever reached on a fielder's choice and was singled to third by Jeremy Lucas. The throw to third base sailed into the stand and Sever was awarded home plate. Combined, the teams committed six errors on the night. The score was 7-4. That was the final.
RHP Jake Sisco (4-8) started the game for Lake County and took the loss. Jake pitched four plus innings, and allowed nine hits, and seven runs. Four of the runs were earned. Jake walked one and struck out three. Sisco also hit one batter. Jimmy Stokes pitched one inning and allowed one hit and struck out one. Felix Sterling pitched a season high three innings and
South Bend sent RHP Brad Allen (5-6) to the mound to start the game. Allen earned the win. Allen pitched six innings and allowed three earned runs on five hits, two walks and one strikeout. Allen also hit one batter. The South Bend bullpen pitched three innings and allowed two hits, one unearned run, and one walk. The pen struck out one. Enrique Burgos earned his 12th save of the season by pitching a scoreless ninth inning.
The Captains will be back in action on Friday Night in South Bend, IN. The Captains will start LHP Ryan Merritt (6-9, 3.56) and South Bend will counter with RHP Rob Coe (2-1, 1.57). First Pitch is at 7:35 PM from Coveleski Stadium in South Bend, Indiana.
