
Havoc Pick Up Three Points In Three Road Games

HUNTSVILLE, AL - The Huntsville Havoc picked up three points in three road games over the New Year's holiday. The Havoc fell 6-0 in Fayetteville to the FireAntz on New Year's Eve before taking a 6-4 decision in Louisiana on Friday and falling in a shootout 5-4 to the Ice Gators on Saturday.
Tuesday, December 31 - Huntsville 0, Fayetteville 6
FAYETTEVILLE, NC - Peter Skoggard recorded a shutout against the Huntsville Havoc as the Fayetteville FireAntz picked up a 6-0 win.
Huntsville's power play was ineffective against Fayetteville's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.
The FireAntz made the Havoc's goalies to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, getting 31 shots and forcing 25 saves. Kevin Genoe made 17 stops and Jesse Kallechy made eight. Fayetteville's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on seven Huntsville power plays. The FireAntz's defense was surprisingly good. Fayetteville averages 2.7 goals allowed per game. The FireAntz's goal total was higher than their season average. Fayetteville has scored at the pace of 2.8 goals per game during the current campaign.
The FireAntz were helped by Brandon Richardson, who had one goal and one assist. Richardson scored 10:20 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Fayetteville. Matt Smyth provided the assist. Fayetteville additionally got points from John Clewlow, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Bobby Reed, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Smyth, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points, and Chris Greene, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Kyle McNeil also scored for Fayetteville. In addition, Fayetteville received assists from Aaron McGill, who had two and Mike Kavanagh, Brett Liscomb, Nick Craven, and Brandon Greenside, who contributed one a piece.

Friday, January 3 - Huntsville 6, Louisiana 4
LAFAYETTE, LA - The game between the Huntsville Havoc and the Louisiana IceGators was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Huntsville emerged with a 6-4 win.
The Havoc gained the winning advantage on a goal by Nick Lazorko 15:35 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.
Lazorko was all over the ice for Huntsville, as he racked up two goals in the win.
The Havoc stifled Louisiana's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Huntsville's goal total was higher than its season average. This season, the Havoc average 3.7 goals per contest. Huntsville relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Lazorko, Mike Gurtler and Josh Harris took 15 of the team's 29 shots.
Huntsville additionally got points from Ray Ortiz, who also registered one goal and one assist and Paul Kurceba, who also had one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Huntsville included Stuart Stefan and Dominic Osman, who each put in one. In addition, Huntsville received assists from Leland Fidler, Justin Fox, and Matt Singleton, who contributed one a piece.
The the IceGators penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled eight minors and one major for 21 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 18.0 minutes per game Louisiana had been spending in the box. With 32 shots on target during the contest, the IceGators exceeded the 26.4 shots they average per game this year.
Louisiana was led by Shawn McNeil, who tallied two goals and one assist. McNeil scored the first of his two goals at 14:13 into the first period to make the score 3-2 Louisiana. Jason Cohen assisted on the tally. McNeil's next tally made the score 4-3 Louisiana with 9:01 left in the third period. Matthew Robertson picked up the assist. Louisiana also had goals scored by Bret Peppler and Adam Stuart, who scored one goal each.
Jesse Kallechy recorded 28 saves for the Havoc. Huntsville totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 2-for-7 on the power play. The IceGators' Matt Zenzola stopped 23 shots out of the 28 that he faced. Louisiana registered zero goals on four power play opportunities.
Saturday, January 4 - Huntsville 4, Louisiana 5 - SO
LAFAYETTE, LA - Jake Trask netted the deciding goal for the Louisiana IceGators in the shootout as IceGators prevailed over the Huntsville Havoc, 5-4 (3-1 SO).
The two teams needed eight turns to complete the shootout. Huntsville got a shootout goal from Josh Harris. Louisiana's other shootout goals were scored by Chris Wilson and Trask.
Wilson had a great game for the IceGators, netting two goals. Wilson scored at 9:03 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Louisiana and again while 12:33 into the first to make the score 3-1 Louisiana.
The Louisiana penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. The IceGators surpassed its season average of 18.0 penalty minutes per game. Louisiana struggled on the penalty kill, allowing the Havoc to score three power play goals on four chances. With 32 shots on target during the contest, the IceGators exceeded the 26.6 shots they average per game this year.
Louisiana additionally got points from Shawn McNeil, who also registered one goal and one assist. Tyler Lyon also scored for Louisiana. In addition, Louisiana received assists from Jeff Grant and Mitchell Stretch, who each chipped in one and Trask and Adam Stuart, who contributed two a piece.
Huntsville's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Louisiana power plays. The Havoc average 29.9 shots on goal per game, but only sent 21 pucks on net against Louisiana.
Huntsville was helped by Harris, who tallied one goal. Harris scored on the power play 10:30 into the second period to make the score 4-3 Huntsville. The Havoc earned a power play opportunity when McNeil was put in the box for holding. Stuart Stefan picked up the assist. Others who scored for Huntsville included Leland Fidler, Brandon Perry, and Matt Singleton, who each put in one. More assists for Huntsville came via Justin Fox and Mike Gurtler, who each chipped in one.
The IceGators' Kiefer Smiley stopped 17 shots out of the 21 that he faced. Jesse Kallechy made 27 saves for Huntsville on 31 shots. The Havoc ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major.
