Huntsville Havoc News Release
HUNTSVILLE - The Havoc welcomed the Macon Mayhem to the Rocket City on Sunday, November 11, hoping to end the league leaders' win streak at seven.
Despite a late push and a powerplay opportunity for the final minute and a half, the Mayhem escaped from Huntsville with a 3-2 win.
"We got off to another slow start and it cost us a legitimate chance to win," said Havoc Head Coach Glenn Detulleo. "We showed some fight late again, but when you play from behind consistently, eventually it will come back to bite you."
Macon started the scoring on a powerplay after Huntsville's Alec Brandrup was assessed a double-minor for high-sticking. The Mayhem outshot the Havoc in the first period 16-6 and took the one goal lead in to intermission.
Macon's Jimmy Soper doubled the visitor's lead 3:27 in to the second period, but Huntsville's Christian Powers scored his first goal of the season on a powerplay a few minutes later to cut that lead in half. The period ended with Macon once again outshooting the home team 10-6.
The Mayhem earned back their two-goal cushion at 9:15 in to the third, but Ryan Salkeld cut back in to that lead for the Havoc with eight minutes left in the game. Despite outshooting Macon 16-6 in the final frame, the game ended with Huntsville's second consecutive one-goal loss and Macon's eighth straight win.
These two teams won't face each other again until January 25 and 26, 2019, when they play a weekend home and away series.
