Peoria Chiefs News Release
PEORIA, ILâThe Peoria Chiefs in conjunction with the Chicago Cubs have announced that rightfielder Ryan Harvey has been placed on the 7-day disabled list with back spasms. Alfred Joseph will take his slot on the Chiefs roster and will join the team from Extended Spring Training in Mesa, AZ in time for Friday's 7:00 PM game at Kane County.
Harvey left Sunday's game at O'Brien Field with back spasms and missed the entire four game series against Fort Wayne. In 21 games Ryan was batting .280 with a team high 5 HR and 16 RBI. The former first round pick set O'Brien Field records with 3 HR, 7 RBI and 13 total bases on June 18th against Wisconsin.
Joseph joined the Chiefs from Mesa, AZ. He was drafted in the 15th round in 2004 out of high school in Hagerstown, MD. He played in the Arizona Rookie League last year and batter .260 with 20 RBI in 44 games. The outfielder also contributed two doubles, two triples and five stolen bases. The 18-year old will join the Chiefs on the road and be available for Friday's game at Kane County.
The Chiefs have been shorthanded all week. In addition to Harvey's injury, second baseman Eric Patterson left Saturday after re-aggravating a prior hamstring injury. Patterson leads the Midwest League in batting average and on-base percentage. His return is unknown. Then on Thursday night, outfielder Sam Fuld jammed his shoulder sliding into second base during a stolen base attempt. He left the game and is not expected to play over the weekend in Kane County.
The Chiefs begin an eight game road trip Friday night in Kane County. After a four game series with the Cougars, Peoria heads to Beloit, WI for a four game set with the Snappers. The Chiefs return home for four games against the Burlington Bees starting on Saturday May 16 with the Zooperstars in town and a post-game fireworks show. Tickets are available at the O'brien Field Box Office or by calling 1-866-MYTICKET.
