Bakersfield Blaze News Release

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - It's Mayor Hall Bobblehead Night at the Bakersfield Blaze, Friday, July 24, as the Blaze host the San Jose Giants in the second of a four game series.

Honoring Bakersfield's Longest Serving Mayor

The first 1,000 fans will receive a collectible bobblehead doll of Bakersfield Mayor Harvey L. Hall, compliments of the Harvey L. Hall Family. "The giveaway is almost two years in the making and serves as a great way to honor Bakersfield's longest serving mayor," said Dan Besbris, assistant general manager and director of broadcasting for the Bakersfield Blaze. "Mayor Hall has connected with every segment of our community performing over 850 ribbon cuttings, presenting over 9,000 certificates of appreciation and over 1,700 proclamations. Not to mention, he has assisted 276 young adults in our city with their college education by donating his mayoral salary for the Mayor Harvey L. Hall Scholarship."

Being honored by the Blaze is significant to Mayor Hall who is an avid minor league baseball fan, and lifelong supporter of the Bakersfield Blaze and the teams that preceded them at Sam Lynn Ballpark. "During his youth, Hall worked at the ballpark changing the scores on the scoreboard for the Bakersfield Boosters," said Mark Corum, director of media services for Hall Ambulance Service.

Mayor Hall Home Run-a-thon!

In addition to a great night of baseball, the event offers a full night of fun and activities. To start, Hall will present checks to each Blaze player who has qualified for the Mayor Hall's Home Run-a-thon! Players receive $50 for each home run they hit during Blaze home games the first half of the season. Left-fielder Tyler O'Neill tops the list having hit eight home runs!

Hall MEDEVAC 1 Fly-in to Deliver First Pitch

In a Bakersfield Blaze first, Hall Ambulance's MEDEVAC 1 helicopter will fly-in to center field to deliver the baseball for the first pitch to Mayor Hall.

Family-Style Giveaways Every Inning

The fun will continue with family-style prize giveaways, courtesy of Mayor Hall, at the end of each inning. The Bakersfield Blaze's on-field team, along with Siren the Rescue Dog, will make their way through the stands to randomly choose winners.
