Lancaster JetHawks News Release
SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The JetHawks rallied early and held a lead to defeat the Inland Empire 66ers, 10-6, to even the three-game series on Thursday night at San Manuel Stadium.
Chase McDonald and Ronnie Mitchell collected three hits each for the JetHawks (49-41), and Mitchell led the way with three runs batted in. Derek Fisher and Jacob Nottingham both homered, the latter while playing near his hometown of Redlands. Jordan Mills (1-0) recorded his first win for Lancaster, allowing one run on two hits and a walk over 2.2 innings of relief.
The JetHawks took an early three-run lead in the first inning against 66ers (42-47) starting pitcher Victor Alcantara (4-7). After two singles and a hit-by-pitch loaded the bases, a J.D. Davis base hit scored one run, and Mitchell followed with a two-RBI single.
Inland Empire responded with two runs in the bottom half with Keegan Yuhl on the mound. Two walks and a single loaded the bases with one out, and Roberto Baldoquin delivered a two-run single to bring the 66ers within one run. Yuhl would last just 3.2 innings, yielding three runs on four hits and three walks, striking out four.
But after neither team scored in the second, Lancaster touched Alcantara for three more runs. Davis hit a RBI-single in the third, and a Fisher sacrifice fly and a RBI-single by McDonald brought the JetHawks' lead to four runs.
The 66ers managed two runs against Lancaster's Andrew Walter, who lasted just 1.1 innings in relief of Yuhl. The JetHawks, meanwhile, scored three runs against reliever Garrett Nuss, including Fisher's two-run homer in the eighth inning. Nuss walked three batters over 2.2 innings and gave up a total of four hits.
Albert Minnis finished the game for the JetHawks, allowing just one hit over 1.1 innings of scoreless relief.
The rubber game will be played on Friday with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Bryan Radziewski (2-2, 3.29) will pitch for the JetHawks against Inland Empire's Sean Newcomb (4-1 2.94).
